Game Expo in Philly

It's the day after the expo and I'm just really exhausted. Feeling a little sore from the 2 runs on the Go Karts at Arnold's next to the expo center. BUT I HAD SUCH A GREAT TIME!!!!!! So glad I got to catch up and spend time with Brian. Missed you Diane. Also at the convention were 3 members of the web series "The Guild" Sandeep Parikh, Robin Thorsen and Jeff Lewis. Wonderful people, but I wish I could have spent a bit more time talking and getting to know them. Also there was Jsu Garcia who is best know as Rod Lane on "Nightmare on Elm Street". He and I have the same rep when it comes to these conventions and it's been our 2nd show together. Lovely person. I was excited to meet David Nykl, Dr. Zelenka from the no canceled "Stargate Atlantis". I'm rather upset about it, but I'm sure no more than he is. I haven't had a chance to check out the new Stargate Universe, been to busy. Had the most amazing comfortable bed at the Crowne Plaza at Valley Forge Hotel. It was like sleeping on a cloud for me. But anyway met so many great people. I'll post some of the photos I've got once I get home and have caught up a bit. Met some people in AMAZING starwars outfits. Couldn't get over the craftsmanship on these.

So hopefully by the end of the week I can post the photos and update things.

Another Convention Appearance, Philly Area

So I was asked prior to the Nashville appearance at the Geek Media Expo to make an appearance in Philly at Game Expo. This will be taking place on Oct 23 - 25th. Also attending will be my costar of Clerks, Brian O'Halloran. I'll actually only be there on Sat and Sun because the evening of the 23rd I will also be attending my HS Reunion. Wow is all I can say. But a busy Friday it will be as the Expo has set up an interview with the local NBC 10 news channel. I'm looking forward to seeing home, family and friends.

So it's been a few days since flying back to LA from Nashville from GMX, Geek Media Expo . I had the best time. This convention seemed to go all night, everynight. Met some great fans, most from the beautiful Nashville area. Would definitely love to go back and see more of Nashville. A place for anyone to go and see is The Gaylord Opryland Hotel. It's a community in and of itself. Took a ton of photos. Thought I was going to just be taking a leisurely walk to the hotel and then the mall, well 5 hours later my feet were killing me as I didn't think both were as huge as they were. Especially when walking the short distance from the hotel to the mall. When you come up to the mall and see part of it, it doesn't look so big until you're walking inside and it seems to go on forever. Should have worn my sneakers on that one. But I made it back to the hotel where some attendees started to make their way in for the opening ceremonies of the convention. I was unexpectedly introduced and asked to make a quick little introduction of myself. Quick and easy way to get over my fear of speaking in front of people. I know, "What a fear of speaking in front of people you say". Yes a fear of speaking in front of people! It's quite different than acting in front of people where the lines are given to me as well as who that character is. No worries about making a fool of myself there, unless of course I forget my lines and what I'm supposed to do. Being yourself is about really about exposing yourself, your personality and hoping that people will like you for who your really are and not the person they think they know from the big screen. I will admit that I relate to some of Veronica in the sense that I would definitely bring my boyfriend Lasagna that I've made myself. Encourage and support him in whatever fulfills him in his life and hope that we would make each other better. When I love, I love hard.

So back to the convention. Sat, the next day I got to meet more people and had some really nice conversations with many. I sat next to Jackson Bostwick. Captain Marvel himself. Very nice guy with a beautiful daughter. This was the first year for this convention, there were about 516 attendees which isn't bad. With the many rooms of different panels and activities going on, the Q & A panel happening in the Atrium didn't seem to have much in the way of people attending them, so I was a little worried for my 3 pm Q & A. But no need to have worried, I only had to do 37 minutes. The others had an hour. I made sure that I wasn't up there on my own and that the convention gave me a moderator of sorts in case there weren't much in the way of questions. I had a nice little gathering of about 20 - 25 people. Could have been more, but some folks got stuck at the Zombie walk at the Opry Mills mall where they were doing the Thriller dance. Anyhoo, got through my panel and felt good about it. Later in the night got to see Neil Patrick Harris's little film "Dr. Horrible" done with shadow casting. Very funny film and very interesting to watch people act out the parts ala Rocky Horror. After that I got to see "Repo, the genetic Opera" also done with the shadow casting. In attendance and sitting in my area was Terrance Zdunich, co-writer, illustrator and actor of "Repo". Great actor and amazing singer, I made sure I told him so. Not a movie for everyone, but I enjoyed it. I need to rent and watch again when I don't have to be dodging people heads that get in my way of viewing. I was told about the movie earlier in the day and didn't think I knew about it until it was explained to me and then it sounded familiar. Well come to find out that yes it sounded familiar as I was told about it before and I heard the Paris Hilton casting story from one of the producers of the film who happened to be a guest panelist on Hellbent for Hollywood Carl Mazzocone, who happens to also produce the Saw series. What is it they say, Small World. After that got to spend the evening with my new friends Todd, his beautiful wife Merika and they're entourage of Michelle, Natalie, Daniel, Kevin, Robert and the great illustrator of Star Wars, Matt Busch. We had some great stories and conversations till 3:15 am. I was tired but the conversation and stories were to interesting to leave. After a few hours of sleep, started the day of as usual and toward the closing ceremonies of the show. I truly had such a great time. The group plus Larry Landsman whom I was introduced to on the first night of the show, we all went to dinner and again, great conversation which went on through the night before we all turned in or left to go our separate ways. I only got about 3 hours of sleep before I had to wake up before the chickens to catch a Taxi to the airport for my really early flight back to sunny LA.

GMX - Geek Media Expo

Bad me. I've been so busy that I haven't posted anything on here in a while and there's so much to talk about. I'll start with an appearance that I was asked to do in beautiful Nashville right in the heart of Opryland. Geek Media Expo. We just finished opening ceremonies and it's looking to be a fun weekend. I'm set up to do a panel discussion "37 minutes with Marilyn Ghigliotti" tomorrow, Sat at 3 pm. Finally got to meet Todd, a great guy that I have been speaking to for about 5 years when I was approached by him to host an event that fell through. Very weird to have contact with someone and meet for the first time 5 years later. Also got to meet a friend and producer of his, Kevin. They are both owner and operators of World Sport. It's an idealistic vision of the near future where the civilized world is at peace and is thrilled by the entertainment of full scale world-wide war games conducted with non-lethal weaponry. Original and creative.

So I've met some great people today and will continue to meet some great people over the weekend. The weather has been beautiful except for the air conditioning that is cranked up right now in the hotel and anywhere I seem to go. Sipping some ok hot chocolate as I write.

Film "The Little Samaritan" Nominated

So a little short film I appeared in by the name of The Little Samaritan has gotten a nomination in a UK film festival. It's nominated for Community/Social Action. Doesn't look like any of us will be attending, would be nice huh, but all good. Wish us luck.

Sunday I get to go to my first real Oscar party being held by the Talent Managers Association. Get to walk the red carpet have dinner, smooze and watch the oscars in style. It'll be nice to have a reason to get dressed up, doesn't happen to often any more. I hope to have photos to post.

So I did a little youtube short for a very talented friend by the name of JD Mata. I got to know him when he cast me for a christmas play he was directing, without my really auditioning. He wrote and directed the short film as well as the music. This is the second of a series yet to be finished. It was an interesting evening as we had an earthquake that only myself and the girl playing Julie felt. I was sitting in a chair at the time and she was sitting on the floor. Enjoy!

Whew, what a busy couple of weeks this has been. I booked an internet job, had an audition yesterday out in Ventura county and considering that it was a true cold read I did pretty darn good. Did I book? Who knows, but it's ok cause I got to act. Met some wonderful people through my job with Acting Success Now with Robert and Michelle Colt. I always enjoy my time with them and the people that sign up with their awesome workshop. Busy day in rainy LA

So it's cloudy and raining in the usually sunny LA. Well, it is much needed and when the clouds do clear up and you can see the mountains in the distance they look so pretty with the snow caps.

Well, just cause it's miserable out doesn't mean that everything stops. I had a meeting today with Aqua Talent (Commercial) Agency and I really liked them. Can't ask for a better meeting as a matter of fact. So now I've got to make a decision between an Agency that will rep me for theatrical and commercial or an agency for just commercials and keep looking for theatrical. Decisions, decisions. They're good to have, but sometimes, no so much. Sometimes it's nice when the decision is made for you. Well, I've got till the new year to make that choice. No need to make it right now as there is absolutely nothing happening with the holidays being here just around the corner, next week, wow!!

Sneezy

I've been fighting a cold all week. But I'm starting to feel better now, just putting up with an annoying cough and clearing up of the throat. But all should be good for my meeting with Aqua Talent on Wednesday. Wondering if my dog, Monroe, was having sympathy for me as he's been sick with some messy issues. After doing my investigation online to see what to do, I held off from feeding him all day and gave him pepto. Last night I made some bland rice and fed it this morning with a bit of his raw food and we'll see how that goes. Fingers crossed.

Meeting with Barron Entertainment tomorrow and I did my homework in finding out what I could about them and so far I like what I see. They also happen to have a couple of people I know as clients, so I asked on that end as well. But we'll see. I've also got a meeting with another agent on the 17th.

Had an audition today for a Verizon spot. Nothing much that had to be done on that, so it'll all be on the look they want. Italian family, sure I know I look the part, but there are plenty of them out here. Believe me I saw a bunch of them in the waiting area.

St. Juan Diego sees the Virgin Mary

So this evening I just played the character role of a maid in a spanish play which depicts the Virgin Mary's (Our Lady of Guadalupe, also called the Virgin of Guadalupe) appearances to Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin on the hill of Tepeyac near Mexico City from December 9, 1531 through December 12, 1531. Along with the other actors there was a choir and dancers to move the story along with some well known singers from Mexico. The play was a sucess. All who attended enjoyed the play and my character as did many in the choir who mentioned it was hard for them to keep a straight face. Awesome.

Thanks to JD Mata for allowing me to be a part of something historic and fun. And to the other actors for a great performance.

A couple of weeks ago I was informed that my commercial agent of at least 7 years has passed away. I knew he was having health issues, but god bless him, he never let on how bad. There was a really nice memorial service of his clients out here in LA and was confirmed as to what a wonderful person he was and not the typical agent. Barry loved to hear from his clients and actually have a relationship with them. I will always have a place in my heart for you Barry, you were definitely more than an agent.

Stange Dave Show

That's how I actually decided to do the show, was listening to one of his shows and making sure I wasn't going to be taken advantage of like I probably would on the Howard Stern show. Anyway, it was a fun interview and my thanks to Dave for requesting it.

Well, it looks like my commercial agency is back on track when it comes to getting me submissions that get me in the door. Thanks Kenny. I've had two in the last couple of weeks, one this week for Budweiser where they are looking for a authentic Jersey Girl. Forgetabout it, here I am. Seems I've got a callback I think. The notice is a bit vague, but my agent is looking into it. This is the photo that was submitted for the audition. Now that's Jersey!!

Hollywood Collectors Show

Had a great time at the Hollywood Collector Show in Burbank over the weekend. My appearance agent Ant-nee(Anthony) as I like to call him and his associate Mike came to LA. Ant-nee lives in Brooklyn ( a little bit of home) and Mike comes in from Seattle. I got to meet Mike's Mom who was a total sweetheart. If you have a myspace page you can check out the boy on my page and look for Fan Boys. Some of his other clients who are all great peeps are Cynthia Gibb, who've I've met a long time ago actually and was her personal hair stylist for a PAX movie by the title of Mary Christmas. We've done two of these together now this year. Others that were in Burbank with me were 2 of Cynthia's cast mates from the TV show FAME, Nia Peeples and Jesse Borrego. Also in attendance Sheree J Wilson, from Walker Texas Ranger, Donna Pascow from Saturday Night Live, Debra Shelton - body Double, Jsu Garcia - Nightmare on Elm Street.

The show was a bit on the slow side, who knows maybe because of the recession that the government still says we're not in, but I still got to meet some great people. It's always a pleasure to talk to people and get to know them, even if I'm bad at remembering names. I actually did see a couple of familiar attendees from the other conventions I attended. And it was I that asked if I had met them before, which they had indeed acknowledged.

I must say, I'm not really an autograph collector by any means, but I was almost tempted on this one. Many oldtimers here. I saw the original Lois Lane from the black and white Superman series. SoCal Film Fest

Had a pretty busy weekend in where I worked and attended the last day of the SoCal film fest with my friend Michael. Got to see some really good shorts, some so-so and some not so good. Some of them even great, but so-so actors. Met a great couple from NY Swati and Brenden who wrote a really cute short. She won for best directing against my friend Gena and our short DIG. It would have been great if Gena won, but I'm glad the only other women in the catergory won, GIRL POWER!!!!

In the Best Supporting Actress role, I did not win. The award went to Ali Larter, which I had expected, but I still won with the nomination and I'm extremely happy for that. As long as there's somewhere to climb to, things will only get better as I always want to grow and make myself better.
